Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke today with Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Şentop about cooperation and bilateral relations, as well as about the results achieved in project and economic cooperation between Serbia and Turkey.
Brnabic stated that the relations between the two countries are currently at their highest level, first and foremost due to exceptionally good relations between the presidents of Serbia and Turkey and that they yield results, not only in the field of economic cooperation and investments, but also represent an additional guarantee of stability and preservation of peace in the region. As for economic cooperation, the Prime Minister underlined that she is happy about the fact that there is unreduced interest of Turkish investors in our market, especially in undeveloped parts of Serbia.
Turkish investors are an important element of overall growth of the Serbian economy and a great support to the state in the fight against unemployment and for a better standard of living of Serbian citizens. Şentop said that the relations between our states are at their historical maximum and are an example of good cooperation to other countries. He congratulated Serbia on opening a new cluster in the accession negotiations with the European Union and highlighted the support of Turkey in the process of European integration.
Turkey will continue to give support to the stability of the region and to Serbia too, which is a very important factor in spreading regional cooperation, Şentop underlined. When it comes to the economy, Şentop pointed out that the interest in Turkish investments in this market is increasing, and that it is expected that the trade exchange will reach $2 billion this year.
The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey assessed that the opening of a new Belgrade-Ankara airline is extremely important for the economy, as well as plans to increase the number of direct airlines on the Belgrade-Istanbul route next year. The potential for cooperation in the field of tourism, as he pointed out, also imposed the need for better connection between our countries.
Summarising the joint projects, Brnabic cited as especially important those in the field of renovation of cultural and historical monuments in Serbia, which is taking place with the help of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). Renewal and preservation of the common cultural heritage is very important and sometimes connects the two nations stronger than economic and other cooperation, the Prime Minister assessed and added that she will give all the necessary support for this practice to continue in the future.
